Many people never have a problem with file loss, so they never feel the need to back up files. It is like having insurance for your house in case there is a fire. It doesn't happen frequently, but it can happen, and when it does, it is a pain in the @ss. Back up, back up, back up.

I sure hope you get this problem solved. If it were mine, I'd sweet talk it first, and if that didn't work, I'd kick it around a bit. If it still didn't work, I'd disassemble the drive, and try to rig it up as a direct drive to my puter (and I don't know a whole lot about puters). These kinds of things are very frustrating.

Sandisk will have out 2 terabyte flash drives in a couple of years. That will solve the moving parts problem, but I still have clients that did not realize that a flash drive can become corrupt and unreadable.
