Mr. JR and I went to New Smyrna once about 18 yrs ago. Hated it. He still talks about how icky it was.

They have really good surf though!

We were there a couple of years ago during the height of the shark attacks. I almost reminds me of the beaches of lake erie. :shock:

nsb is an hour away, and the family had a beachfront condo there in the 70s...was a nice area....bobby j is right about the surf by the jetty, and many smallish sharks up there to keep you company...the south end is Bethune Beach[made wider by the 04 hurricanes] and the north entrance to canaveral national seashore. it's a days walk south all the way to the southern end where they shuttle launch complex resides. nsb has fallen victim to many of the same forces trying to ruin sowal.

I have this same thought every single time I go to a different beach!

(except when visiting Sanibel/Captiva, which I haven't since ... well, discovering SoWal.)

Yep, same reason we did. An hour from Disney. Sowal is like 6-7 hours.
