Any thoughts on the recent New Yorker cover? It seems to be getting a lot of play in the media.

If you're a potically savy, elitist from the Northeastern U.S. then it is tongue in cheek humor that even a Democrat would "get." It is also understood as the current state of affairs of where anti-Obamaism is, and where it possible go prior to election, as far as negative campaigning....

If your not in that group and you tend to be fearful by nature, and uneducated, then you might deem it to be a realistic picture of Mr and Mrs Obama.

The former will actually read the article, the latter probably would not....that is what is freigtening.

I think the New Yorker is desperately trying to get publicity and sell magazines - too bad they chose to do so by creating an image that just adds fuel to the fire of ignorance.

When I first saw it, my jaw dropped. Do I know what they were going for? Yes. Do I think they achieved it? No.

Do I think their arrogance is reckless to the point of being harmful? I do. Maybe, hopefully, we can believe that the electorate is past the point of accepting soundbites as truth and overlooking subtleties, but to think that it's okay to trivialize the concerns of the people who don't read the New Yorker, and to put a little mocking cartoon on the cover, won't create a backlash for those who get it and disgust for those who won't bother to try is just ridiculously stupid.

Arrogance is the operative word. To paraphase Jay Gatsby, ""The elite liberal are different from you and me," The majority of the New Yorker's audience will get it and smile for days and banter about it at cocktail parties on the Upper Westside.

It reminded me that we live in a Country where freedom of speech really does exist. If you're running for President or become President, obviously every image portrayed of you will not have a halo or light over your head.

Knowing that The New Yorker is a left leaning magazine, I do not think they meant anything other than to poke fun at the over the top rumor mill.

The New Yorker is really liberal. No way was that meant to be serious. Although the cartoonist could have done a better job of making that point... maybe putting the image on newspapers to show how the media furthers ignorance about Obama.

Anyway, it's something that you would only see on WorldNetDaily. Obviously the New Yorker has no political motivation to push it as a serious message.

They are obviously just making fun of the ridiculous Obama rumors. I think it is well done - it covers every falsehood I?ve heard.

Pretty funny stuff.

People reveal so much about who they are and how they see the world in interpreting illustrations. To me the illustration is hysterical in that it is a satire on cultural prejudices concerning anyone or anything who is not a member of the White Mens Club. The satire is on us, not the Obama's. And it is a political satire in the sense that there are some groups trying to mount a scare campaign...you know "the sky is falling. the sky is falling"..to freak people out about what "blacks" would do in the White House. Note the afro, the guns and bullets...look closely..It's us they're laughing at.
