That's so funny you posted this today. I am currently reading her (Amity Shlaes) book about The Great Depression The Forgotten Man. It has been scaring the hail outta me - the similarities between then and now. Just last night I was telling a friend that the study of US history, at least of the past 100 years, should be required of all politicians. And probably voters as well!

I wouldn't let it scare you too much. Ms Shlaes also said that we weren't in a recession and that Phil Gramm was essentially correct and we are not experiencing any economic difficulties and it's all psychological. That we are indeed a nation of whiners. I am surprised she was allowed to publish a book when instead she should be asking if you want fries with that.

I do believe we are in a financial crisis - but, I also believe that with the media continuing to fuel the crisis, it can provoke fear among many.......

An interesting little story:
There was an elderly gentleman who decided to open a hot dog stand at the beach. His son grew up serving hot dogs to vacationers, then went off to one of the best business schools in the country.

The economy began to slip, but the elderly man continued serving hot dogs. The son came home from grad school on a break and said, "Dad! What are you doing? Don't you know we're in a serious recession and no one is spending money?"

Dad didn't 'know,' because he wasn't feeling the constriction. The next day, Dad closed his hot dog stand and a short period later filed for welfare benefits.
:dunno:

It is not her opinion that scares me, it is the factual history.
