Obama's Speech

When I look at Obama I am a little disappointed with the way he has handled himself. I still do not know who I will vote for but I am leaning toward Obama.

My man is out so I am left with the lesser of two evils. I once read that the lesser of two evils is still evil but chances are I will vote for Obama.

McCain well need I say more, and Hillary just scares the hell out of me. I found this article on Obama's speech to be interesting.

Just curious what exactly 'scares the hell' out you about Hillary, sandybanks? I find all the anti-America comments really scary about Obama. I missed the comment his wife made until yesterday when I read it on here. To me that is what is really scary. I used to like him a little bit, in the beginning but the more I learn the more frightened I become of this man. I'm really tired of the fear factor approach we have all become accustomed to in the last few years.

I enjoy this discussion board because I think it is good that people in this country care enough to get involved and express an opinion. Most of the time, we do that w/out getting personal or hateful. Sometimes, we mess up there too--but, the important thing is to think about the issues and discuss the pros and cons. and, to realize that our very existence as a country is due to a few brave souls who had the vision of a better world, and were willing to travel to a wilderness to make it happen. America has been better than we are now; we can be better again--but I believe we need a leader and followers who have the vision to get us from here to there.

Goodwitch - I love this quote above. I think it's going to become my sig! It really embodies why I am supporting Obama. He is the only candidate that has been able to convey to me his vision -- and to convince me that he/she can move us in the right direction.

I also liked what you said about the importance of discussing the pros and cons. One of my favorite books is Life of Pi -- in it Pi (or another character but I think it was Pi) said that you can't really believe in something unless you question it. (SIDE BAR: He was referring to his opinion on Atheist versus Agnostics and how he felt that Atheist were actually closer to believing in God than Agnostics. And by God he means a combination of all higher spiritual beings.) But I think that the same can apply to politics. Having your opinion challenged -- whether you are the one that posted the opinion or just a lurker who agrees --and being able to think through and articulate a response really affirms your beliefs. I'm very thankful for this forum to allow this to happen. While it might be fun to sit in a room with likeminded folks, it takes the kind of discourse that happens on this board (minus the name calling of late) for us to grow in our opinions and political knowledge.

I appreciate the active posters who spend the time to research the issues and really debate them. And I particularly like the posters who manage to get the conversation back on track when they are hijacked by trainwrecks.

And now you know why my husband calls me the president of my own debate team. I love a good pro and con discusssion!!

Because of some of the things she wants to do. Universal health care, I believe she will keep us in Iraq and she is way to close to the CFR. I believe she will go after guns and let me see, to close to the Bush family.

Having said all of that, she will probably be the next President of the United States.

I have studied policy and voting records and many of the votes that would have helped me make up my mind, well, all three were absent. I say that calm posters might sway me because they might bring something to my attention that I have overlooked or did not pay attention to when reading. Ever since I have been old enough to vote there has been a Bush or Clinton in the White House. I associate two candidates with previous administrations and another one I'm not sure if he has enough experience, yet. The actions of his pastor did cause me to recoil but I am trying to work through that.

One of my main concerns is how in the Hail are we going to continue to pay for the war????? None of the three has been able to answer that question to my satisfaction. And if I am not satisfied then I am undecided.
I also don't think the three are giving any service to how vulnerable our country is from open borders from a national security standpoint, not an immigration point.

Tom Clancy told Larry King that he had once thought of writing about the 9-11 scenario but he didn't believe it was possible and he didn't think his readers would buy it. I think some areas of our borders that are not secure could lead to a possible "unbelievable" scenario in the future and that concerns me. These are a few of my thoughts, not all, on this race.
