So, some of you may remember that my friend Ann has a catfish restaurant in Oklahoma. Well, she used to...her kids still run it. She works with me now.
Every once in a while, some of us head north and go for dinner at the Catfish Platter, Inc. in Willis, OK. It's just across the border on Lake Texoma. Today was one of those days.
Left work at about 3:30. Gassed up. Talked to Kitty who was driving from Houston. She forgot to stop at Buc-ee's for Beaver Nuggets--dammit!
Drive to Willis by way of state highways--not interstate. Lots of small towns along the way. Passed Patrick Swayze's horse ranch--I only found this out after the fact. But, let me tell you, there are more horse ranches in this part of the world than you can shake a stick at. They're everywhere!! Lots of big, huge ones! Lots of beautiful horses. Lots of $$.
I'm the first one to arrive at the Catfish Platter, Inc. at about 5:15. I wait outside for the rest of the group. Now, mind you, this is a tiny town. Tiny. The restaurant holds maybe 100 people. While I was sitting there for about 15 minutes, I counted 22 cars pulling into the parking lot!!
This is quite a popular place! And, I'm willing to bet I just might have been the youngest patron they had until some of the nursey nurses arrived. At any rate, we were seated right away and served up some fine hushpuppies. Y-U-M! I'm not a big fan of catfish, but this stuff was delish! More hushpuppies. Heaven!
After, we go to Ann's lakehouse, which she and her husband have been building for the last five years. It's almost complete and it's darling. Her husband tried to talk me into shooting guns, but I declined. A great, funn time though.
I drove home though the country and crossed back over the lake just as the sun was setting...gorgeous!! Sadly, I didn't have my camera.
I drove with the windows down, and it was glorious! The smell of a summer night in the country can't be beat. I swear the temperature difference between the country and the city had to be about 10 degrees. Concrete=heat.
That's all for now from your roving reporter.
