Not meant to be scary. We're just being silly.

But I tell you, that South Beach Diet *is* making me feel like I'm "crunk," as the hip-hop crowd would say. I assume it's due to the lack of carbs.

Hey, PHAY!!! I have lost 35 lbs. on South Beach keep going it really works!!!!

What's the secret? I've been on it for almost 3 weeks and have gained a pound! My husband has lost almost 20.

The book says something about losing fat around the middle first. My tummy has always been flat - I'm a pear. Like in the Nelly song, Hot in Herre, I'll be checkin' my reflection and tellin' my best friend, like, "Girl, I think my butt gettin' big!"
My husband is an apple, and I'm about to conclude that the diet only works for apples.

I am VERY discouraged. I have eaten so many salads that just looking at one takes away my appetite. I've eaten so much chicken (we can't get decent seafood here) that I feel like I'm gonna start clucking soon - they say you are what you eat. :)

I exercise 3 times a week. I know that's not really enough, but I have no energy without carbs. What makes it so bad is that my husband doesn't exercise at all, yet he's lost weight. The only time we cheat on the diet is when we occasionally have a glass or two of red wine or Miller Lite.

I'd appreciate any suggestions that you might have. Glad you've been successful with it!

So what's the difference betwixt the South Beach Diet and Atkins? Inquiring minds want to know.........I've lost up to 40 lbs. on the Atkins about 2 years ago, then pizza became my religion once again, now I've lost around 15 again on Atkins. South Beach sounds interesting. :dunno:

Ok, this is the difference between Atkins and South Beach. With Atkins you are very limited to the "good carbs" you can eat after your 2 week induction phase. With South Beach, after your 2 week phase cutting out virtually all carbs, you are able to reintroduce good carbs back into your diet, such as fruit, 100% whole wheat breads, whole wheat pasta and brown rice, and beans. Still, you need to cut out all white refined flour, sugar and potatoes (that is the hardest for me, however I just read an article that said they have created a lower calorie, lower carb potatoe. Waiting for it to hit the market, haven't had one since January). The key is moderation, even with the "good carbs". It takes a little while to get used to the taste and texture of whole wheat pasta, but once you do, you will love it and probably not want the other stuff. I know I don't. I have not had any sugar either since January, I use Splenda for virtually everything. It is very good to bake with. There is a very good pizza recipe in the South Beach Diet cookbook. Also, they make a great frozen South Beach pizza. It is very good. Anyway, cutting out all white refined flours, all white rice, potatoes, and sugar has helped me to loose 35 lbs. and counting. I feel so much better and have a lot more energy!!! Good luck to you Phay and KY Oyster!!!!

Kathy,

Not doing South Beach but another diet plan that encourages low fat, high fiber, whole wheat choices. We found that cooking the pasta in our sauce helped. It absorbed the sauce and cut down on the yuck factor of the ww pasta.

Also found a low carb pasta that we really liked. It's called Dreamfields. Ifind it in Atlanta in Publix or Kroger. Barilla also has a ww pasta that is better than some of the others I've tried, IMO.

You might want to reconsider your use of Splenda and any other artificial sweeteners. Just do a google search.

I don't know why everything has to be so sweetened. If you go awhile without sweeteners of any kind, you discover that many natural foods become to you sweeter than any desert you ever had.

kurt is right on with the Splenda thing. That stuff is pretty bad for you.

Gosh, thanks for all of the great advice!

My sister told me last year about the negatives of artificial sweeteners. I will definitely experiment with giving those up.

Whole wheat pasta ... oh, yeah. We've missed pasta so much that we made homemade ww pasta on Saturday. It tasted like butt, pardon my language, and looked sort of purple next to our homemade sauce of vine-ripened tomatoes, basil from our garden, garlic, and shrimp. I'll try the boxed pasta that was suggested - definitely a lot easier than making it ourselves.

I will definitely try the pizza from the South Beach book - thanks.
