"I will happily chortle the next time Walton County gets whacked. See ya then."

That's what I'm angry about.

EDITED BY KURT FOR FOWL LANGUAGE (no need for that).

T2M,
In post 17 you say you will happily chortle when Walton Co gets whacked, then in post 25 you say that you wont chortle when Walton gets whacked. Do you really know what you are trying to say? I am confused.

Oh, get angry. Get really pissed off. Go pound a wall someplace.

I have spent the whole year dodging hurricanes, tropical storms, whatever. In a way have enjoyed it. Evacuated from FL for Dennis. Evacuated from NOLA for Katrina. Have had friends drown (and mocked on this board (without my comment) for not knowing about riptides) in the wake of Katrina and Rita. So, I need a laugh.

Like I said, take a look at those boots of yours. Same size as many of those who live in New Orleans, when the rose-colored glasses are taken off.

Very astute parsing. Decided I won't be "happy" about it and the dictionary definition of chortle imputes happiness as I am sure you know. Maybe I won't even call people or their ancestors "idiots".

Quite easy to say if you are not being foreclosed upon or evicted, liable for the deficiency, have lost your life savings and are living out in your car. (And, those are the lucky ones).

Maybe you should go dissect a fish or take a water sample or whatever it is you do and are presumably competent at. Like I said, from what you say you appear to have no clue about what is going on in New Orleans.

Also like I said, perhaps the Army Corps of Engineers could build levees that meet accepted engineering standards, like they were required to do according to the legislation that authorized the levees in the first place that induced much of the building you are deriding.

I will happily chortle the next time Walton County gets whacked. See ya then.
WHoaaa cowboy don't take it out on all of us..there are a lot of us South Waltons that love New Orleans. One of my by best friends came to comfort me this weekend from NO for a loss of a friend. She and her family have lost everything..home, her father's business., but she stopped everything to come and spend one night with us and then head back to No to deal with al lthe horrific problems there. She has personally seen more than any person should stomach in any life time but she has done it because she loves No. Don't ever doubt, the people of NO are there and thay are strong as hell I personally would never ask for you home to be "whacked" and only hope the best for New Orleans.

I stand by my words, Travel2Much, and I really don't feel like splitting hairs about it. I also don't believe you meant what you said, either; that it was just an unfortunate slip of the tongue on your part. There IS a lot to be sad and angry about in regards to New Orleans and you've seen more than your share of it first-hand. Peace and love to you in this season--and I mean it!

Too much attorney business making someone too uptight.

Nope, not a question of uptightness at all, doing deals here. I just a proposed bargain that many of you apparently find distasteful. I have merely offered to apply the same rules for Walton County residents as are being applied to the citizens of New Orleans. And, to remind you of those rules should your hour of need arise. So, that offer is on the table.

Since you find that distasteful, as another, I also propose that people can thoughtfully discuss the situation in New Orleans as raised in the NYT article, with due respect for the enormous tragedy that has occurred there, with a due sense of the responsibility that we all have for one another and without resort to insults about the people there, and I will agree to do the same about the people here. So, that is on the table, too.

I need some clarification please. What started this dialogue going to a place of bitterness and name calling? T2M...I hope you can remember the outpouring of support and prayer that was sent your way after Katrina. You and others have remained in my thoughts. I am confused as to what you expect me to do about NOLA. I do not need to list what we have done monetarily or otherwise because I am not trying to appease you. If you will be more specific, I might actually listen. Otherwise, your ranting and would be chortling will fall on deaf ears.

I have never been to New Orleans, but I may be moving there later this summer if I am accepted to Tulane Law school. If I decide to go, I plan to take on a major community service work project which is now required of all Tulane students upon return to or acceptance to the University. People are calling me "crazy" for wanting to do this, but hey rebuilding this area is a major task and I am ready to lend a hand with the challenge.
