I have one kid who needs her braces off and another who needs them on. We will have to find an oral surgeon as well.
I would love to find someone between SRB and Destin.

I don't believe there is an ortho any closer than Scott Runnels - his office is behind in Destin in the Kelly Plantation area, and they have opened a satellite office in PCB, which looks to be easier for "tuneups".

Dr. Runnels is the closest. We use Dr. Ladd Horvath in Bluewater Bay, as we still lived in Freeport when my son's orthodontic treatment began and we did not want to change horses in the middle of the stream. We've paid bridge toll a bunch of times... but if for some reason you can't get in to Dr. Runnels, Bluewater Bay Orthodontic Center is really great. 89-SMILE . :D

(btw, crossing fingers...braces to come OFF next month, hello, retainer!)

You can sure tell who has teenagers by looking at this thread! We use Dr. Runnels (Destin), but friends use Dr. Horvath (Bluewater Bay) and love him too. I recently heard that the dentist (O'Donnell?) on Mack Bayou is now also doing orthodontics. I've heard good things about him as a dentist.

Dr. Hornback in Panama city-- best oral surgeon hands down!! she has treated me for TMJ as well as removed my wisdom teeth--which was a remarkably easy experience with her compared to some of the wisdom teeth horror stories i've heard. she is great, such a sweet lady, and shes been doing it for a loonnnnggg time!:D

I agree with SGB...we go to Runnels, but have heard good things about Horvath.

When my daughter's time came for orthodontic work I researched for the best. Not only for his skills as an orthodontist, but his "chairside manner " with kids. I found  Dr. Runnel's won over everyone else....both with kids and the parents!! Our pediatric dentist was the first to advise me to take her to him, and I am so thankful.

My daughter still has two more years of work to go....and we've been with him for 31/2 years so far. She needed a lot of slow work done. And will have some oral surgery done too. One thing I love about him is that he always takes to heart her feelings about the way her smile looks when she goes back to school after the summer.

And, he has the coolest office and staff!!!!

Good luck I hope this helps.

I totally agree! It is nice to be treated so well- especially when you are spending that kind of money! Great staff, cool office, lots of good info.

Kate has some bite issues and she had her first appointment this summer. They took x-rays and pictures, and will watch her for several years as she grows. This is a great service - $150 pays for the panoramic x-rays (unless there are recent pans from the regular dentist), and they will see her twice a year and takes more pics until the metal goes on, which might be 5 or 6 years down the road. We did this with Will- it was 6 years of free consults in Louisville before the braces went on, but early intervention can really make a difference when it comes time to actually put on the braces. (Our Louisville ortho happens to be friends with Dr. Runnels- they speak at conferences together, and their offices are almost exactly alike in feel, coolness, great staff, and efficiency- it was an easy transition!)

We received great news yesterday when Will was in for a tuneup- one more payment! I thought they were going on forever.....so even though he will be in metal for a while longer, my checkbook is out of jail!!:D
