I only caught the very end of the Oscars since I worked tonight. Kinda boring, but I think that's got a lot to do with the fact that the Writer's Strike ended only a week ago so they were under a lot of pressure to write a ton of material.

One thing I always like to see is the "In Memoriam" montage. (I guess "like" sounds kind of weird... But it's kind of nice to see tribute paid to the entertainers we've lost over the past year.) I missed it this year... trying to find video of it.

Just found video of the In Memoriam. It gave me chills to see Heath Ledger there... it's still hard to believe.

Also hard to believe: The people in charge of putting that montage together left out Brad Renfro (who garnered critical acclaim as the "boy who knew too much" in The Client and died of a drug overdose in January) and Roy Scheider (Police Chief Martin Brody in Jaws).

I thought about RS too. Maybe there's some "cut-off" date. Maybe he'll be included next year???:dunno:

I think there actualy was a cut-off date and he fell just outside of that window, so he probably will be on next year's.

But leaving out Brad Renfro... crazy. A fair amount of his movies didn't fare well at the box office, but he had loads of talent and always chose interesting roles. It seems a shame that he was left out.

That is too bad. Wonder why?

Are you talking about Javier Bardem? He was most definitely not in 27 dresses (he's a major spanish actor that's been in every spanish movie since he and penelope Cruz were 15 -- they apparently don't have many actors over there -- this was his first cross over film).
IMHO it really wasn't his first cross-over.
I've admired Bardem since I saw him in Before Night Falls in 2000. That movie surprised me with completely unexpected cameo(s) from Johnny Depp, as well as a brief encounter with Sean Penn.
I certainly thought Bardem deserved his Oscar last night. Every time he appeared onscreen in No Country, I slunk down in my seat, he was so chilling. But Philip Seymour Hoffman was so good, too.
The Oscar program was kind of a snoozefest for me this year, but I enjoyed many of the movies and the performances which were rewarded.

YESSSSSSSSS!!!!!! Glen and Marketa won! We clapped and cheered. Oh, I love him. One of the best performers/bands I've seen live, ever. Ever. So excited for him.

Where did you see the Frames live?

If you liked the song that won, then you would love the movie, Once.

He was also very compelling in THE SEA INSIDE. A story of a man who has been bed ridden for decades due to a diving accident. He is trying to get the Spanish courts to allow him to die. A sad, but intriguing movie. It is in Spanish, so it is a bit more difficult to keep up with the story due to reading.
I think he is extremely good looking in a strong, dark way. :D

What the heck was AH wearing? It looked like a big black sack with an arm chopped off...
I agree with you on RZ...I don't trust anyone whose eyes I can't see...she is so squinty
OK...I don't really know all the actors...so I did not mean Ann Hathaway ( I thought she looked cute) I meant Tilda Swinton...horrible dress!

rapunzel, I am reading your posts and actually cracking up--for what it's worth, we were sharing a brain last night. I was gushing over Helen's dress to Mr. Pod (who couldn't have cared less), and I predicted that hers would be the dress that the "jury" of the press would be out on today. Dead on--first thing I saw this morning was Stacy London totally dissing it!
STL Don, I saw The Frames open for Damien Rice at The Pageant about two years ago, and they were better than Damien. I'd heard them before but became a fanatic that night. And, shame on you--you should know not only was I waiting for "Once" to hit the box office last year but saw it opening week, bought the DVD the first day it went on sale and have trumpeted that movie to everyone who knows me, literally. (Guess I left you out. ;-))
P.S. You'll get your chance to see Glen and Marketa May 6, from what I hear. See ya there.
