I love this thread. It makes me hopeful about America and Americans. Although most every American has been affected by the economy, I think it is a correction long overdue. It is time to be thoughtful about what we consume and waste. I will have to get back to y'all on my choices.

BB...you can continue shopping all you want. America is counting on you! :D

It's my job! :D I helped it along today at The Watercolor store!

I really have tried to cut back on our carbon foot print just because it is the right thing to do. I can no longer use my bathroom without thinking of JohnR. :D Whenever I run the sink water to brush my teeth I think of how much water I am wasting, dont' let the shower run a long time before I get in. I am just trying not to waste so much energy, I turn off all the lights, turn off the computer, don't leave appliances that are never used plugged in such as tv's, stereos.

Michigan but someday in SoWal as well
Grayt thread. I'm doing most of what everyone else says with these things, too.

  • Hardly water my garden. Whatever plants don't survive this year don't deserve to be in the garden.
  • Hardly dry clothes in dryer - about 75% hanging outside.
  • MUCH more aware of water use throughout the house.
  • Don't shop as much or go out to dinner as much (but plan to go out to eat in SoWal very soon!)
  • Never colored my hair and now that it's longer only have to get it cut about 2X year.
  • Want to get my bike out for grocery shopping trips, but have to inflate the tires (how's that for an excuse?)
  • Trying to "repurpose" things rather than get new things
As long as I have a job and good health, I'm finding this economic challenge to be a worthy challenge and a long-overdue lesson overall. But if I lost my job or didn't have good health (or if someone in my family didn't have good health), it would be a very tough time indeed. And I definitely feel for people who are hurting from this not-yet-recession.

I have been buying less brand names. I don't drive as much and we eat out a lot less which I enjoy eating in more ....it tastes better and I am sure my hands and kitchen are cleaner. I won't sacrifice my beer wine or starbucks although I do my starbucks at home now which saves me gas and cash...and the environment a throwaway cup.

My perfect beach
I now color my own hair (and I'm sure a hair stylist would notice the difference, but I don't - except that it now costs $6 instead of $60).

No more acrylic nails, and wow! typing is much easier. Plus, I'm sure my nails are healthier now.

No more mindless driving, but with 2 big dogs who sometimes travel with us, I refuse to give up my Suburban.

I sell stuff I no longer have use for on eBay and have been pleasantly surprised at what folks will buy AND what they will pay for it!

I still pay more for quality vitamins/supplements because I believe there really is a difference.
