Just wanted to share our dining experiences over the week, since so many of you were so helpful to us in our planning! There were the 2 of us (mommy and daddy) and a 16-year old girl and 12-year old boy.
First night, we got takeout casseroles and salads from Cowgirl Kitchen--mexican lasagne and king ranch chicken, plus the house and chopped salads. All were absolutely delicious. I thought we had WAY too much food, and we did, but we devoured the salads, and the leftovers from the casseroles were great for lunches for a couple of days.
Tuesday night, we went to Jambone (I'd won a $25 gift certificate) and had another delicious meal. My beef brisket tacos were to die for--the best brisket I've ever eaten. Hubby loved his pork bbq, and kids as well loved their burger and wings. The only issue I had was the service. It was a little confusing what to do--where to order, etc.--finally someone else walked in that seemed to know the drill and we just followed them. We were told that a cocktail waitress would come by to take our adult beverage order, but no one ever did. There were maybe 3 other tables in the entire place (not a busy night), and a waitress passed our table a couple of times, but she never stopped or even acknowledged we were there. Finally I went to the bar and ordered our wine and beer. The bartender was great.
Wed. morning we went to Another Broken Egg Cafe, the three of us--my 16 year old decided she wanted to sleep in. Loved it! Maybe a little pricey for breakfast, but the Floridian omelette I had (cream cheese omelette covered with crabmeat) was incredible and worth every penny. DH loved his french toast, and son gobbled down his pancakes.
Wed. night we stayed in, eating boiled shrimp bought at Goatfeathers. They were delicious and fresh-tasting. The stone crab claws were just ok--a little watery for the price. Maybe they'd been frozen at some point?
Thursday was our Thanksgiving take-out dinner from Calypso in PCB. Yummy and easy! We picked it up at 11 AM, brought it back to the condo, then spent a few delightful hours on the beach before we had to go heat it all up. That's the way to go.
Last but not least was our final meal. I was craving fried shrimp and oysters, but wanted a place that also had a kids menu for our picky son. We settled on Seagrove Market Cafe (thanks to so many of you who suggested it). It was exactly what we wanted. My meal was delicious--I've never had such fresh tasting and perfectly cooked fried oysters and fried shrimp. My husband had the gumbo, which we all shared (yum), daughter and son had the burger (what else is new!). Loved the casual atmosphere and personal and friendly service.
We picked it over Hurricane Oyster Bar b/c, while they claim to be kid-friendly, it didn't appear that they had a kids menu, and their regular menu didn't have anything my kids would eat. (sorry Hurricane, maybe next year!)
So that's our story. We stayed at Monterey Condos in Seacrest, which we loved, but it would've been tight if we'd had the 10 people sleeping limit. The family room was not very spacious, so we were glad it was just the 4 of us (plus my parents came for 2 nights--that was nice--but wouldn't want to do that for a week).
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. We look forward to making this an annual tradition! Loved the laid back, relaxing, not-crowded atmosphere. So much different than summer!
