Kurt, if we posted South Walton stickers on all the French doors and windows of Conch Out, would it be as effective as putting up plywood before the storm? And did you know that the SoWal sticker has competition? Yes, it can be found at Seagrove Market and sells for $1.95 and there is no contest there.

I have a feeling that whoever wins the prize for the Paint Test will be honored to have both you and Tootsie, as well as Smilin' Joe as guests for the dinner. I am having a great time making out sample menus and thinking about all these suggestions. We've received them via the Board and also in PMs. Some great ideas, with a lot of diversity.

When the job is done, Tootsie and I will have to shop for a unique door knocker made from leather and pearls! :D

i painted in cape may, nj for a couple of summers for a lifelong local. if you've been there recently, you've seen all the wacky color schemes going on. i'm not a color snob by any means, but can no longer tolerate sea-foam(having lived in miami during it's heyday) and what i enjoy seeing is a beach house painted classically, body: white, trim: forrest green, deck: poly grey. obvoiusly, having never seen your house, that may not fit. i saw no link to your house in the thread, and went to VT area and saw no listing for conchout in grayton. i'd love to see the house if i knew the addy.

I hope they are not using, "SoWal" which Kurt has trademarked.

Also, the more I think about John R's seafoam comment, I do not thing the white with green trim and porch grey will work on Donna's house. You see, Donna is so close to the Gulf that the water occasionally sprays some seafoam on her house. The problem is that it is not the green color that she is thinking about. It is more of a pale brown yucky color, and that would make the white paint look really dirty. Though after further thought, that would give Donna an excuse to visit her house more often. "Sorry, I have to fly to Florida to clean my house. Bye-bye!":funn:

Michigan but someday in SoWal as well
One thing to keep in mind for trim is that if there's a hurricane and you board up your windows/doors you'll want a color that blends in easily when you patch up the holes from the nails on the window/door frames. Does this get me dinner, Donna?

SJ, I am :rotfl: after reading your Donna will travel for housekeeping joke. A high school buddy visited us at The Conch Out one day and asked how long it took us to clean the house. The embarrassing answer is that it would take me a month and it wouldn't be as right as it is with our excellent housekeeper. Plus, I would be one grumpy beachcomber as a result. Yours truly is sadly lacking the gene for fastidious housekeeping, ironing, sewing, or stuffing mushrooms. All these things hold value for me, however, so the mitigating factor is that we are good at writing checks.

I am loving these color suggestions and keeping a file with everything. So far, looks like the solution may be a hybrid of suggestions from several parties. Maybe this is stacking up as a dinner party for far more than eight souls!?! Stay tuned for the next sample menu with wine pairings after this weekend. I am thinking oysters, wild mushrooms, tenderloin, and very hearty wines. Also thinking about summer berries and Proust.

Today's paint thoughts: White trim (Paula, you're right about plywood fills and paint matching.) and white wooden rafters (many of these) in the porch ceilings; tin undersiding of the porch roofs, natch; a bottle green on the walls (not dark green, but the color of the old Coca Cola bottles with light shining through them, also the color of the Gulf just before the wave breaks at shoreline); and that deep blue-green or greenish teal for the French doors (the color of the water at the Destin Overpass Bridge). And some kind of eye-catching weather vane, possibly a vertigred copper.....MERMAID!!! :clap_1:

No fish spit for The Conch Out. Like Madonna, it is getting good at reinventing itself. From squat Butler cottage to big house to _______???
