Rapunzel...are the Repubicans running on arrogance, again? They must believe this right wing portion of the party is going to carry them, no? Yikes. I can't believe they are that stupid, but then again, if we look at the Dems past two POTUS elections, that looked stupid, as well.

Lately, I have noticed that many of my Democratic friends want to have a voice in the Republicans' choice of candidate for VP. I'm also remembering some of my Republican friends wanting to have a say for the Democrats' choice of Presidential Candidate's. I think they mostly laid off of the Dem VP choice.

Since the Dems and Reps each establish their own candidate of choice, why do we tend to want to get up in the business of the other party?

Now you make me wonder in that, with that line of thinking and your independence of party, why do you want to get in the business of either?

Great question -- because I care. My question wasn't intended to tell people to stay in their pen. It was intended to encourage people to question why we do what we do, and plant a seed of thought. I'm not a fan of Party PoliTRICKS, and do think that each of us SHOULD be concerned with everyone on the tickets. It shouldn't be limited to Dems selecting Dems, and Reps selecting Reps. Why can't we as a Country just select the best of the best, rather than playing Party PoliTRICKS, which we all know doesn't typically place the best candidates for the Country on the tickets. The Parties tend to put the best candidate for their own Party, on the ticket, leaving out more than half of the population's interest.

Then you just answered your own question.

If everyone else's answer is like mine, why the hell do we have parties? Why shouldn't we be deciding who the top seven Presidential Candidates are, voting, then having a run-off between the top-two finishers, rather than focusing on Party PoliTRICKS?

I am hoping the "silent majority's" answer is like yours. I think of all this poiltics in the form of the bell shaped curve. (that curve helps me make sense of many things that don't make sense). Surely, this type thinking is in the middle of that curve?

SJ...how long would it take to completely revamp our politics? Mind boggling.

It could happen very quickly, if we didn't have Nascar, NCAA football, basketball, Jay Leno, Budweiser, marijuana, and whatever else we do with our free time.

If it were a foregone conclusion that Obama was going to win you wouldn't hear a peep out of Democrats about Palin, vice versa for the Republicans and Biden if McCain were going to win for sure. Who is the Libertarian candidate for VP or who will it be? It is a non-issue. But as the real race is close, the decisions of either party may affect all of us.

I like the use of "isle" in place of "aisle*. It may not have been intentional, but the mental picture of an isle between the two parties is a good one. :D

...excellent! And on that isle are most Americans! :sosad:
