The article alludes to and makes several allegations against Mr. Godwin (a private citizen) which simply are not true.
In response to those allegations Cory Godwin himself responded:
In response @Cory Godwin wrote on FB: This week a political ad was published in the DeFuniak Herald, by a candidate opposing my current employer, Tax Collector Rhonda Skipper. The ad mostly included the opinions of the individual and some facts obtained through public records requests. Opinions are rightfully protected as free speech, which is right we all respect. However, a line is crossed when libel, malicious, and defamatory statements are presented as fact, when they are simply untrue and could easily have been determined as such. For now I will only say that i have never been let go, lost a job, or been terminated in my entire life. I also have never been investigated, found to have violated, or otherwise suspected of illegal acts by FDLE, the Department of Corrections Inspector General, or any other investigative agency. A simple request to those agencies, or review of my personnel file would have revealed this (negligence). Fortunately, state law (F.S. 836) protects each of us from such false statements of fact that cause harm to us professionally and personally. It is my intention to demand a retraction of these false statements, fully consider my options under the law, and to forgive. My thanks to all who have expressed concern over the past few days.
