Great read -as always- Paula. You know how much I love Italy. The part about watching your kids dance in the piazza where you danced as a kid really struck me.

I have family in Torino/Turin (my great-grandmother was the immigrant), but I have never met them. Someday I'd love to do that kind of trip. Thanks again for the report.

Katie Blue, it would be wonderful for you to go back to where your family came from and walk the same paths and see people who look somewhat like you and perhaps meet some of your relatives!

Seeing our girls enjoy Italy and get it under their skin was really the highlight.

I was walking back from the fish and chips festival with one of our daughters and we passed some old men and women dancing outside together. She saw them, stopped, let out a long little sigh because she was quite moved by the sight. As they danced, the men were straight as could be with one hand gently placed behind the women's back and they would glide the women around the dance floor looking quite sexy in a way that time hadn't changed (they reminded me of how my father used to dance). I loved our daughter's little sigh because, as young as she is, she honestly saw the rare beauty in that moment -- to see these older men and woman gliding around the dance floor under the stars very full of life and love. Quite a moment for us to savor together.

Of course, you are all always welcome at our Italian table!
So very true Paula...I grew up in a large Italian family, our motto was (still is).... "Of course there's room for 1 more, pull up a chair and pass your glass!"

What a wonderful trip and report! Thank you so much for sharing with us. I love how you are sharing traditions and family connections with your kids. And better yet has to be that you get to watch them appreciate it. I'll be waiting for your pics. :D
