In Florida they have to turn a list over to law enforcement listing everything they have received. Occasionally the cops will go in and do an inventory. Probably 99.99% of pawn brokers are perfectly honest people that will turn someone in, in a heart beat.

Move to Sowal!!! Paint everything that you have that can "walk" bright pink or orange. I am working on painting my stuff, so far rakes, shovels...after this thread I think I'll paint the lawn mower too!

As a reminder, it is a HUGE help if you can provide the serial numbers and a photo or description of the item stolen.

Fifteen minutes w/ a digital camera and a pad of paper can mean $$$ when dealing w/ an insurance company that wants "proof". I take pics and email them to myself so that they are always available/accessible in case of a fire, hurricane, etc.

I hope they have that policy here. A Stihl chainsaw is one of the best chainsaws made. One other place it could be is in someone's home. Sometimes there are sting operations here that target theft rings and on occasion recover a house full of stolen merchandise. It could show up that way also.

The best thing to do would be to file a police report. I don't know if the people in your neighborhood would be interested in additional security in your neighborhood or not but here in Atlanta, in my neighborhood, we pay quarterly dues of $35 and all money goes to cover the cost of undercover police to patrol the neighborhood. Given we're an in town neighborhood there is crime, but far less than there was 8 years ago when we moved in. I believe it's because we have a very strong neighborhood watch. We have worked for years to eliminate the crime in our neighborhood and it only worked because our neighborhood was dedicated to fixing the problem. Nothing was more frustrating than spending the weekend planting flowers and having the pots stolen off your porch that evening or the next afternoon. Those thieves would take anything that wasn’t nailed down! I wish you luck and hope you’re never violated again.

I think most thieves are probably just smart enough to not take the stuff to pawn shops these days. They just sell it for cheap on the black market to people who want huge discounts, and choose to ignore the fact that the items are probably stolen.

Lady D, be careful about creating mini-movies in your mind. A thug isn't a thug by appearance. A thug is a thug based on his or her actions. You might be surprised to find out that someone other than one of those 3 people stole your goods.

We pay $50 a year dues to cover the costs of upkeep. And there are two cops who reside in our neighborhood. Whether anyone actually goes around watching out for things I don't know. This is the first time we've had something really valuable taken. We have had a used 24" bicycle taken but we did not pay much for it. It was my son's. But other than that, I don't read about or hear of many break-ins in this neighborhood. We have been in this neighborhood for 14 years. We do have pictures of things though that are inside the house and written down information. Will have to take care of recording anything else we have purchased.

Lady D....Could it be possible that it was taken by a crotchety old neighbor who was tired of hearing the continuous sounds of a chainsaw? You would have to be using it often enough but I can see it being done. It gives me the creeps that someone would steal a chainsaw if not for that reason alone. Maybe this neighbor has been traumatized (see movie) and the mere sound of a chainsaw makes them do "crazy things."

No, I didn't do it.

I recall another thread on here about someone who has a giant pine in their yard with branches falling onto their home from the last storm. Maybe they needed a chainsaw to clear all those.........Awwwwwww never mind. Just kidding. I couldn't resist.
