Ah, yes. I tell my kids (and anyone who will listen) that my favorite place on earth when I was growing up was my grandmother's old apartment.

So, I guess the philosphy I learned would be "it's the people who make the place". And of course, the common wisdom that "Happiness is wanting what you have, not having what you want."

AWWWWW! That's so special.

Yup, it really is. After I wrote it, I also thought that I don't want to romanticize life in a small apartment with old stuff. I certainly would have loved my grandmother to have had more (and I'm sure she would have enjoyed playing pokeno or cards anywhere). But she didn't and she was still very happy and it was still the greatest place on earth in a child's mind. Many immigrants go through the same path -- come to the U.S., get a small apartment, be happy with what they have, and set a foundation for future generations. Today, when I see people doing the same thing (wherever they come from and whatever work they're doing), I have the utmost respect for what they're doing for future generations.

RO,

We went to a Ray LaMontagne concert last night that we had planned on going to together for months, and before hand we had a few drinks at the bar next door to the concert hall. The whole time she was trying to act cool about me dating other people and was trying to point out chicks for me to hit on in a joking manner. But the jokes she made were obviously her way of trying to hide the fact that she hates the idea of me being with someone else. It feels good to regain control of the situation! :clap_1:

Not to make light of your situation, but this is almost better than watching "Days of Our Lives!". Watch out for game playing now...there are no winners!

I'm so glad I don't have to do that crap any more. That wasn't fun.

I'd echo SueShore - color me quaint, but my personal experience suggests that when a relationship becomes about who has "control" at any given point of time, the essence of the good stuff is lost and everybody ends up on the loser end of things... If instead the focus is on giving more than one gets as much as possible, the longer term rewards of such an investment seem usually much greater than when alternative tactics are employed... ;-)

So, let' tie this back into the thread of your philosophy of life. What are you learning aobut yourself from this experience?
