Exactly.

I wouldn't recognize Joe, even if he was picking up trash on the beach, smiling, holding a camera, drinking a beer, and hauling a tent to the trash pile.

What if he were wearing a t-shirt saying "I am Smiling Joe"??? :laughing1

Thanks for the photos guys. It looks so nice and peaceful.

hhhmmmmmmm.

I agree with Joe, Thanks for the board Kurt! It really makes it easier to keep up with things so far away. And it's nice to get to know your neighbors ... that you could be standing right next to and not even realize it. Ha, the irony.

Just today, I picked up a hitchhiker on Hwy 98. He turned out to be a neighbor who I have heard about for two years, but had not met until today. Batton down the hatches.

This is Western Lake this morning, July 8, 2005.
Grayton is mostly desserted, everyone is at the Beach. Beginning to feel the frienzy in the area. Gas stations are backed up in all directions, and I had a report, from someone who just came down from AL, that intersections going north are backed up for several miles. I overheard other people on the beach questioning why the beaches were closed. Go figure.

Smiling Joe,

Few people would pick up hitch-hikers. I can just see you doing that (reminds me of my dad, a very trusting person).

Thank you for the local updates and offers to check on things for people!

Seeing that pic and your discription of what's going on at the moment makes me pretty sad right now.

I'll echo others in that this message board is way better than any media reports will be. Thanks Kurt & all.

Everyone please take care!
Rita

I cannot say that I pick up all hitchers, but I do a quick eval on every hitcher I see. Maybe one day, I will pick you up, when your car is broken on the side of the road and there is a hurricane quickly approaching. He looked alright (some dead people's famous last words).

I don't fit the profile, but I have hitched rides for hundreds of miles all along the eastern US, so I guess I can relate to a brotha in need of a ride.
