yep, that PCB pier was completely removed last month, and they are moving right along. The replacement pier is not scheduled to be completed until Spring 09.

You can do plenty of catching fish from the shore and don't need a pier to catch fish.

We just like to take a walk out on the pier and view Panama City Beach and view the sea turtles in the surf when possible. Neither one of us fish. At least hopefully it will be ready when we come back, probably won't come back later in the summer, might not next summer if gas is $7.00 a gallon like they are saying it could be next year.

With the high elevation along South Walton and 30A, there are a number of places you can get elevation to peer down to see dolphins, sea turtles, etc. Really don't need a pier at all. Fishing from shore is very productive around here. Panama City Beach is closer to the east end of South Walton and will save you some drive time. Even with higher gas, once you get here you can park your car and walk or bike ride to many places. You might even save gas that week. Good luck.

I always wondered what the history was with the old pier at Lake Powell/Phillips Inlet/Camp Helen. Do you happen to know?

I believe that was part of Camp Helen. It is now State Park land. I'm assuming your referring to the piers sticking out of the Gulf just West of Pinnacle Port?

I was pretty sure that was who owned it. I am guessing that it was damaged by Opal but I was wondering if DL knew why it wasn't rebuilt, if it was ever used, etc.

Not sure, probably funding or environmental concerns. I doubt those remaining piers are usable.
