BEAUFORT, S.C. - A Navy Blue Angel jet crashed during an air show Saturday, plunging into a neighborhood of small homes and trailers and killing the pilot.

The Blue Angels are stationed out of P'cola.

Here is a [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uM9t_bbkeQc"]YouTube - Pilotcast #033 - Blue Angels F/A-18 flight with Kevin Davis[/ame]of what it is like to be in one of those Hornets. RiverOtter, you will like this. Those pilots must be in incredible shape to do what they do. Most passengers in these jets pass out when pulling G's and end up puking before the ride is over.

:sosad: :sosad: So sad for those families involved. Our prayers are with them and also with the team mates of the Angel that crashed.

I understand that it was jet #6 which crashed, but they were going to alert the family before they released the name.

That is sad. They go thru so much training and do love their year of service. There is a fantastic series on one of the high-def cable channels on the Blue Angels, how they train in and out of the plane and a lot of footage from inside the cockpit. Amazing stuff.

I believe the # 1-4 planes are the diamond pattern flyers and #s 5&6 are the solo pilots who do the faster flyby and turning maneuvers.

Skunky, I think you nailed it. This [nomedia]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yYN6K4ylXUQ[/nomedia] taking a 5 minute ride in one of the F-18's with a Blue Angels, gives me an idea of what it must be like for these pilots. He is laughing and grinning  from ear to ear the entire road.

In contrast, for the rest of us average guys, [nomedia]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xlFTbvVh9E[/nomedia] is what it must feel like. :puke:

That is so :sosad: . They are incredible. I woulda  to have been down there for The Thunderbird Show. Were the Blue Angels there too? or would that be like 2 headliners together?

It would be like 2 headliners, and the Blue Angels and the Thunderbirds are not allowed to perform at the same time at military bases closer than 150 miles. It is all about marketing for two different branches of the armed services.
