Also make him pay for for search and rescue costs, and the costs of scrambling a couple of F-15s in order to investigate suspicious movement of a plane that could have been headed who knows where with no pilot aboard.

I think they won't have any trouble finding stuff to charge him with. I believe it is a big federal crime to intentionally crash a plane - for the reason that it's damn dangerous - his plane went down 100 yards from a house.

The officers took him to a hotel not knowing about the crash, but he was gone by the time they returned, last seen running into the woods.
