I think I am more concerned about adding two who are bonded to my labby who was here first....how would I add these two without making my guy feel slighted?

I think your older dog would adjust just fine. Think of all of the running he will do with friends to play with. You might feel slighted because he might not play with you as much anymore.
We have made it a point to separate our two every once in a while for a little one on one time (puppy needs undistracted training time, schnauzer needs ears scratched without puppy chewing on his face).

As long as you look at it as a long-term committment and you can live with that, then go for it. We have three dogs, it isn't always easy but I wouldn't have it any other way.

thanks for this,,,,,and no question about the commitment part.

its just almost more than a person can bear when you start looking at rescue sites and read about these fur babies and how much trauma they suffer as a result of human stupidity and heartless actions....the look in the eyes of an animal in a shelter cage.........it just kills ya!

That's alot of dogs!

If your house, bank account, and sanity can take it, definitely go for it!

3 large dogs is doable if you have the space and time, more than that I think gets to be too much logistically.

I do recommend spaying/neutering them if you haven't already!

giving Tully a playmate was the reason for starting this quest in the first place,,,,he would love it and give me a break too,,,,,he's velcro'd to my body all day long as it is!

it is A LOT OF DOGS!
I have the space/yard....I am concerned about the money part...I make my own dog food for the most part,,,so its very high quality and not cheap to make, but it cuts the cost of health care down in the long run.
-they of course are all fixed.
I do have the time,....work at home....never travel....mostly a recluse.

We have six dogs and another that gets dropped off ( a choc. lab) when my brother goes out of town to work. It's chaos, definitely, but they all get along great together, no fighting at meal time, they actually wait patiently and take turns to eat.

Thank you for loving fur babies!!! I'd say, go for it!

We only have 2 dogs now (both rescues), but at one time had 4 dogs, an indoor cat and a guinea pig. It was furry pandemonium. The yard is a must, no doubt. The food can get expensive, especially making it yourself. Is your homemade recipe cheaper than Blue Buffalo? That's what we feed ours and both are doing great on it. It's holistic and available at Petsmart. http://bluebuff.com/

It may be an adjustment, but I don't think you'll regret your decision. At least at one year, they're housebroken. You have a good heart, T.Cline.

We had 5 dogs last week - 2 older golden retrievers (95 lbs or so), 2 young chocolate labs (75 and 85), and a german shorthair retriever (55 lbs). They basically all get along, but it's chaos, especially if wildlife, food, or excitement are added to the mix!

That's why I now draw the line at 3!

ah ,,,thanks...

the food I make is the raw diet primarily -raw meats & bones,,,for example= ground turkey (hate that I have to buy it from grocery-working on this) a mix of vegetables & legumes run through food processor, pro biotics- garlic powder-algae-nutritional
yeast-lecithin-kelp-vitC-vitE-omega oil-olive oil-yogurt,,,,,made into patties and freeze,,,,,I change the meat to add variety, sometimes its fish.
he also gets a beef short rib bone-turkey necks-chicken backs to supplement his calcium.

I feed Timber Wolf for kibbles on occasion.

I dont think any processed dog food is very healthy for full time feeding, even the most expensive has the same issues....the mass production and the storage of products make the oils in it turn rancid....=big problems over the life of an animal from eating processed foods,,,,,not much difference for humans-if we all ate only prepackaged processed foods = BIG HEALTH ISSUES.
