Good gravy - she couldn't even get the GIST of the midnight ride of Paul Revere correct WHEN VISITING HIS HOME AS PART OF HER damned TOUR!
Paul Revere did not warn the British (by shooting a gun and ringing bells) that they couldn't take away our arms.
Paul Revere did warn locals that the British were coming, and signaled the route via the number of lanterns in a bell tower. No shooting. No bells being rung.
Apparently Longfellow's rhyme wasn't catchy enough to drown out "drill, baby, drill".
"Listen, my children, and you shall hear
Of the midnight ride of Paul Revere,
On the eighteenth of April, in Seventy-five;
Hardly a man is now alive
Who remembers that famous day and year.
He said to his friend, "If the British march
By land or sea from the town to-night,
Hang a lantern aloft in the belfry arch
Of the North Church tower as a signal light,
One, if by land, and two, if by sea;
And I on the opposite shore will be,
Ready to ride and spread the alarm
Through every Middlesex village and farm,
For the country folk to be up and to arm."
I hope her kid was able to hear the tour guide, that household needs someone with a middleschool level knowledge of American History. I weep that she served half a term as governor of our largest state.
