No, I'm actually willing to pony up to fix a problem as apposed to biatch endlessly on a message board while doing nothing. ;-)
You do know that you can voluntarily give more to the government. I think you should in order to show your support and appreciation for the new administration.
Yes I am aware I can give more, and as long as I don't file my taxes they'll keep it.

Follow along here. I said in the event of massive budget cutting and paying down of debt I would be willing to have a higher tax rate. In the meantime I'll continue to donate the difference to charity.

Actually, I don't think there is any requirement to take deductions. So, you can file your returns and pay much more than that for which you are legally obligated if you would like to reduce the amount of the government's debt. Please do so and leave those of us just scraping by out of your pleas for higher taxes.
I believe SWGB's point here is if the Fed is willing to undertake some serious budget cutting and take any increase in everyones taxes and use it only for paying down the debt he is willing to make that sacrifice. It may not be the answer but it is an idea. The debt belongs to us all and if we are willing to work together and make some uncomfortable choices to get the Nation out of this crisis we just might be able to pull it off. No one wants to pay more taxes but Bush's unprecedented increase in spending while giving massive tax cuts surprisingly didn't turn out so well. If reducing taxes is the answer let's just eliminate them altogether and and we can all share in the prosperity. If the Government does adopt SWGB's plan maybe they will create a special exemption for citizens like you full time who seem to want all the benefits while letting others pay the bill.

You clearly have me confused with the future Treasury Secretary.
Bush did NOT cut taxes. He reduced tax rates which resulted in increased tax receipts.
As for paying down the debt, you're kidding right Poppy? Obama is committed to increasing the debt by almost a trillion dollars. We are at a point where we cannot cut spending without some painful choices and as a country, we don't seem to be willing to make painful choices. In fact, most seem to favor deficit spending.
