President Hannity? Talker drops hint

Posted by Desta Bishu | August 23rd, 2009 at 5:46 am
Talk-show host says he won't rule out bid for White House.

WASHINGTON – Talk-show host Sean Hannity, a vocal opponent of Barack Obama's policies, said today he would not rule out a bid for the presidency in 2012.
Egged on by radio colleague Bill Cunningham, Hannity said he would consider entering the front lines of the political fray if God directs him. "I've never made a decision in my life without – whatever destiny God has you've got to fulfill it," he said. "I'm not sure that's my destiny." Hannity would make a formidable candidate, with the likability of Reagan, good looks and strong convictions. He's also a polished communicator and knows the issues inside out. And he can debate. Hannity hosts the second-largest radio program in America, after Rush Limbaugh, and a highly rated nightly TV show on the Fox News Channel. While Obama's approval ratings have been plummeting in his first year in office, no clear Republican frontrunner has emerged. The candidates most often considered viable include Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin and Hannity's Fox News colleague Mike Huckabee. Cunningham, one of Hannity's guests during a visit to Cincinnati today, said the nation and the Republican Party need Hannity. When WND asked Hannity to repeat what he said on the air about a run, he said, "I ducked." Later in the program, a member of the audience asked what the host thought of a Hannity-Palin ticket. The studio audience erupted in applause. Hannity asked: "Would any of you really want me to run?" Loud applause followed. Hannity then asked, "How about I just stay on the radio?" No applause.

Wow, that seems like a weak field if that's what the Repubicans have. I think Hannity has more influence as a radio host than he would as a President, though I can't see him ever winning. Palin seems like a nice person but for some weird reason, there seems to be a heated opposition to her and the things said about her are downright ugly. But I can't see her winning under too many circumstances. Romney is the only one mentioned above who seems legitimate to me.

Maybe it's a pipe dream of mine, but it sure would be nice to see a candidate from 'outside' a party to win. Someone who really represented the people. I'm not sure if there exists a person who could rise above the power of special interests or who would really be for a less intrusive government, but I can dream. But speaking directly to the thread, Hannity is not the answer for the Republicans, in my humble opinion.

I agree Mike. There is a dynamic individual out there. Someone who will appeal to the moderates on both sides. Hannity isn't the one.

My son is a huge Ron Paul fan. There are a lot of young people SO disillusioned with politics and Paul offered a freshness that many soaked up.

It is a shame we are already talking about the next term. I don't see how anyone can get anything done in the short amount of time they are in office - especially due to the fact that half of the term is time spent on getting re-elected or on getting the vp elected! Crazy system!
