This sounds great, but you're essentially dumping a ton of new traffic onto Sandestin Lane. That intersection is already overloaded daily. More roads don't equal less traffic.

This does increase golf cart mobility, but to think it'll release traffic is a fools errand.

Sure looks like it to me. Check out the Goldsby to E Hewitt connector in this article:

Not sure how that lines up.

Try this website: Florida Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services
There is an interactive map if you scroll down. If you look between Goldsby and E Hewitt you'll see the state forest. Interestingly enough, there does appear to be some sort of gap where the proposed road will go.
I don't recall exactly how it went down but some state Republicans visited our BCC not too long ago and glad handed them the connector road through the state forest in Seagrove. Seemed like all it took was a little sucking up and some St. Joe schmoozing in Tallahassee for a done deal. We got railroaded so wouldn't be surprised to see roads like this one on public lands where developers decide they want it.

Keep in mind this was private land up until about 30 years ago. The county did preserve right of ways in certain areas. That's speculation on my part I just don't feel like researching deeds tonight.
