DD, I got this really cool book on pumpkin carving from the library. Definitely NOT your grandma's pumpkin! One of Indianapolis' best heart surgeons lives a block or two over from us and he always has a bunch intricately carved pumpkins on his porch every Halloween. Though when you come to think of it, if they weren't intricately carved, I'd have worries about him...:yikes:

MANgo carves a very detailed pumpkin the night before Halloween.
Mine don't come out quite as good as his.
We never used any pumpkin preserver and a couple of days later they are finito.
Thanks for the link. I didn't realize one could use WD40 to preserve it, although it seems to make me a little nervous regardless of the fact the fella on the web site says it doesn't burn once it is on the skin of the pumpkin.

There are some great pumpkin carvng kits that you can get at any craft store that include stencils and all the tools to mark and carve the pumpkin. You basically poke holes through the lines on the stencils and then connect the dots with the carving tools. Some are really intricate, and they look awesome lit up at night...

Got mine already. Love these. Just have a hard time deciding which one to use, they have so many choices.

We usually do a detailed on the night before trick or treat too. I always coat the pumpkin with vegetable oil. I think it preserves it and makes it look shiny and pretty!

We need to post our pics this year OL. That would be fun.
On that web site singinchken posted, they said vaseline works and that they sell pumpkin preserve (which I never have seen, maybe didn't look hard enough)
The veggie oil sounds like a good idea too.
