Bars of soap or soap shavings will repel them. Get creative with little motel soap bars! Maybe rub your pumpkins with the soap.
I do know they do not like the smell of soap!

I bet this works! I've also tried the cayenne on some of my flowers b/c rabbits were eating them.

Thanks to all of you. I realize it's not an earth shaking problem, but I'm so tired of cleaning up pumpkin stuff, plus it's expensive. And, it's only Oct. 4th!

The movie Caddyshack is coming to mind. You could carve bigger animals out of the soap to scare the squirrels!

You can use this to attract squirrels to the pumpkins.
