I wear only the most proper of beach attire, thanks, Mr/Ms. Scoots.......I gave up the Speedo years ago, and am henceforth (dis)content in surfer shorts, flip-flops, and a Tommy Bahama t-shirt! I'm truly from the deep South (Florida, that is) and, in spite of current economic circumstances, I no longer sweat the small stuff.....I now perspire it! I'm blessed to be a (12-year) SOWALer, a hard-working local, a bit of a smart-ass and ALWAYS, very, very, very happy to be me......

Forget apostropes and contractions, I'd be happy if people started speaking proper English again!

Wouldn't I love to hear "really" instead of "real." But I suppose the "ly" has gone the same route as the "ed" at the end of waxed. As in paper. :D

Take it up with the folks at Reynolds - they got to me decades ago!

Grammar in general has just gone out the window - I actually cringe when hearing some people speak.

speaking of "language", my 7 year old recently asked me this: "Mom, what does suck mean?". this word is in all the kids movies and everyone says it - kids and adults - I guess I say it occasionally, but I really don't like the word - the sound of it just sux:D. I really did not have an answer - the word is used in so many ways and really has no one meaning. I think I told him people use it to describe how they are NOT good at something. and that its not a very smart word. He already says dammit on occasion when he gets frustrated (the astronauts on apollo 13 say this a lot - so he says he learned the word from astronauts - wonder why he didn't pick up GD or other really good ones from that movie?) - now we're going to add suck or sux? what's next? don't answer that.

One dem thar City Slickers that warrs sissy pants...Huh? Just wont do tall herebouts in wenchville---lessen you kin beach bout purr verts

Where I come from, my nearest neighbor was a half-mile in any direction....definitely not "city" (though I thought I was slick). Critters were easier to find than friends. And, not being a trendy person, I never was much for sissy pants even when sissy pants were "in"! That said, I'm good to go in wenchville...though, thankfully to many, I did give up the Speedo years ago. These days, I'm in camoflage......so if you're looking for me, you'll find me in surfer shorts, flip-flops, and a Tommy Bahama t-shirt!

I like dialects. And, I like hearing an accent or certain phrase and responding, "You're not from around these parts, are you?"

I really like waxed paper. :D

How do we do it...learn words people want to protect us from? I learned sh*t by the time I was about five and got in huge trouble in first grade for it......of course, my bigg brothers got in bigger trouble. :funn:

My first word was sh!t. My dad was building our first house so apparently that was the word I heard the most. :D

Swafia's first word was SHE IT, it sure sounded like the 4 letter word. At least he didn't learn how to spell it like his uncle did when he was a baby. The neighbor kid taught big brother the F word and how to spell it. My mother lost it, especially since Grandma was coming to visit.
