I ALWAYS take HWY 98. to Pcola. Going to airport or anywhere west for that matter.
I have been fortunate enough not to run into any accidents and it usually takes me the same amount of time that the other route would.
Lots of lights, 35, 45, and 55 mph zones, a couple of school zones too. BUT the pay off for me is there are plenty of things to see places to stop, and just a better drive in general.
Going from Sea Grove to I-10 to Pcola is just flat out boring as heck!!!
Happy trails!!!

I always take 98 all the way and leave a buffer of 45-60 minutes that I then use to get a burger at the airport restaurant.

I like getting a burger and shake at the "Steak & Shake" just down the street at the Cordova Mall parking lot. Better yet, a bowl of gumbo at Jerry's Cajun Cafe on 9th, a couple blocks north of the mall.

Steak and Shake :puke:

They actually do a decent burger at the airport place - plus you can monitor the security line while you eat it. One time there was an unusually long line so I took it to go and sent the burger w/ fries and ketchup through the X-ray. :D

For the airport, we usually go I-10. If you wait until the Davis Lane exit though (where the little airplane symbol is), you are way out of the way. Take the first exit after crossing the bridge into Pensacola, and go south. I forget the name of the road you will turn right on, but there's a little airplane sign there. You will go alongside the airport (but then you still need to turn left onto Airport (?) to actually get in.

Most other stuff we go 98 for. In re school zones...elementary school starts much too late in Okaloosa and Santa Rosa County.

Y'all are both nuts. Why not just eat a big bowl of Colon Blow before boarding? Of course you may have an affection for a bathroom that got cleaned when it left Boeing in 1953 and has seen tush than a retired Proctologist (sp?).

Two Imodium and lots of cheese, that's the way to travel.

As to the original question, this time of year 98 is probably a safe bet. However, during season up 331 and I-10 is going to be much quicker.

I have taken both, 10 takes you to a nice cut off along the bay that is a beautiful drive through Pensacola (lovely homes).
I usually tkae 10 there and 98 back. 98 is a beautiful drive and well worth the extra time!
Carmen...I want to meet the son!

Thanks for all of the tips for my airport hike. I was actually pleasantly surprised by the return on I-10; not boring at all to me, a little hilly, and beautiful trees. The ride out along 98 was uneventful, but, other than crossing the bridge into Pensacola, and the always stunning drive across Okaloosa island, not much in the way of scenery. The whole afternoon helped give me some perspective about this little oasis of 30A which I seemed to be mysteriously inhabiting.
