The doc at the healthmark ER (i was up at the north end and figured i cpuld just go on and get the first shot)says I don't need shots. I have no scratches or open wounds. He said have the health dept. trap and quarantine the coon and let them decide if I need shots. Never the same answer twice. Then he said he had no vaccine in house anyway and that the doc i talked to and poison control told me to get the shots so I wouldn't sue them. I assured that is not the case. We argued the point and I left more confused. Meanwhile the coon got into our garbage again.

Oh my goodness! What a confusing dilemma to be in! And even if a coon is trapped, how can you be sure it's the same one?

I'd trust my private physician.

It would really be great if you didn't have to take those shots.

I am at the health dept about to get the shots. They are not happy at all that the local hospital turned me away. Even if there is a 8th of 1% of a chance of me getting rabies from this encounter, rabies is fatal PERIOD and not taking a precaution that is available would be irresponsible. There will be further discussion about that!!

thought I would add to this thread because I had a very strange encounter with an animal on West Georgie street a few days ago. this animal looked like a fox/coyote, but it was black and white....so I'm not sure what it was. I was looking strait into the sun coming up without sunglasses on so maybe I couldnt see the colors correctly but I could see how it staggered around. I thought it was a hurt dog at first. I was at the dead end on West Georgie with my 4 dogs heading back east when this kritter staggered out of the bushes couple of house further east, it sniffed around but staggering the whole time it like it was drunk, it turned at looked at me/dogs but then staggered back into the bushes. My dogs didnt whine or bark but looked at it in full attention (which in itself is weird). I looked for it as I passes the house but saw nothing. So....just a heads up...it could be nothing but thought it was worth mentioning because we have had rabid animals off of E. Point Washington in the past.
