I find it noteworthy that there hasn't been a thread in this forum on NY State's passage of Marriage Equality. A really really big state pushed through gay marriage and no one had a word to say.

Wow, NY. As a young teen the 60's I remember watching the 10 o'clock news clips of the Stonewall riots in NYC, when I lived in the NY-NJ metro area....police clubbing gay folks and putting them in paddy wagons.....Now a mere 42 years later, gays can marry in NYC at City Hall. I am thankful there is always a younger generation coming along, because this is what is helping move the approval numbers on the gay marriage issue.

Broadly speaking, however, everyone need to be truthful and come out of the closet, whether you are gay, bi-sexual, transgendered, or straight (pretending to be gay). The bottom line is that all Americans believe in fairness--to help it along you need to let family, friends, co-workers, etc. know who you are fully, and that for the most part you are just like them--that will quell the alarmists among us.

From no-tax pledges to pro-marriage pledges - what's up with these groups wanting candidates to pledge to everything under the sun? Does that mean they can't change their mind due to increased knowledge of a subject, changes in the subject situation, or concerns of their constituents? If not, why bother having representatives even meet? ..

Presidential candidates who sign the pledge must agree to personal fidelity to his or her spouse, the appointment of “faithful constitutionalists” as judges, opposition to any redefinition of marriage, and prompt reform of uneconomic and anti-marriage aspects of welfare policy, tax policy and divorce law.

The Marriage Vow also outlines support for the legal advocacy for the federal Defense of Marriage Act, humane efforts to protect women and children, rejection of Sharia Islam, safeguards for all married and unmarried U.S. military service members, and commitment to downsizing government and the burden upon American families.

In addition, candidates are asked to recognize that “robust childrearing and reproduction is beneficial to U.S. demographic, economic, strategic and actuarial health and security.”

If those groups spent a fraction of the time and effort on actual helping military families that they do trying to control others' sex lives and religious beliefs.............

Sharia law? Give me a break - it's just like keeping kosher. It only applies to you/your household and is superseded by other laws.

Even in recognized MUSLIM countries that end in "stan" Sharia law is inferior to/overridden by the laws of that country! Probably because they are secular countries that think that religion should not interfere with laws, politics, and state affairs. The rule of law and their constitutions are the highest authority.

Let me see if I can remember the crazy phrase they use to describe this - oh yeah - "separation of church and state"!!!

I have no problem with muslims observing sharia law in their own households as long as it is not enforced or given a place in a governmental court of law.

The place Sharia law has in a governmental court of law is the same place as any other other religious law.

It's just trendy to discriminate against Muslims right now, which is why the idiots aren't fired up and passing laws against Jewish law and Canon law.

The only way Sharia laws have any bearing on our lives or courts is if we adopt those religious laws as our laws................the way some other religions (Christians) have done or want to do with their religious beliefs/laws.
