I feel that I personally try my best to be a good Christian. I don't go around and pronounce my faith and witness to everyone I meet. I am just not like that. However, I do "fear" God. I dont walk around thinking "I am a God fearing person" but this thread has made me get into some deep thoughts today. I believe that God can do things that are unimaginable to us as humans. With that said, I do believe in the afterlife, Heaven and Hell. Being that I feel that way I assure you GTTBM that I have never been to a service where there was a snake present and SB44 I hope that I dont come across as a hypocrite. I know both of you were not talking to me personally but I guess I just fall into the category of "the group".

There are good examples and bad examples of all religions. There are good leaders and bad leaders of all religions. There are good followers and bad followers of all religions.

Did not have you in mind when I posted this IBD. I  you,

I just truly don't understand, and never have, why fear we should fear God. I think we should instead, fear our lack of judgement, understanding, and compassion towards our fellow man.

Perhaps the snake thing was over the top. However, it's certainly something that I can relate pure unadulterated with.

Say what? :dunno: "Fear of God is a quiet grace"?

If it's "solemn awe and reverence. then call it that. Sorry, I still don't understand why and where fear enters into the equation.

Unless someone is trying to personally throw fear into you, then I don't understand why you care how individuals characterize their faith.

From a non-political, purely business point-of-view, I will say that when someone calls us to rent one of our properties in Sowal and threads into the conversation that they are a 'good Christian family' our hackles rise and we grab hold of our wallets.

Now that I think about it, no one's ever told us they were a 'bad Christian family'.

One family did have a dog that prayed though.

No problem with me at all. I shake things off like that.

No, the snake thing was not over the top, there are people out there who do have them at their service,:yikes: I just don't think that there are that many round these neck of the woods, (or there may be:shock:), which is ok as each person has the right to believe what they want...

Amen. The overuse and watering down of the word Christian has troubled me for a long time and people use it as an "I am better than a non Christian, I can be trusted" ploy. I think it was the Honk if You Love Jesus bumper stickers that turned the tide for me.

disclaimer...I am a Christian.

I certainly agree we have have the right to believe however we want. What gives me problems is when those beliefs are either forced on me; or integrated into the policies of the government.

Many years ago my dad visited a church that handled snakes and spoke in tongues (he was invited by an old country patient). He came home terrified and sick to his stomach. Said it was like a nightmare - pure evil. I finally understood why there were certain churches he wouldn't let me visit with friends.

I guess for the same reason you jump out so quickly to defend it. Just expressing my opinion. Peace, love, and light! ;-)

All opinions and faiths are welcome!
