Haven't found anything to replace Sandor's--that's why we go to FOOW. I've not tried Borago in years....and I've not been to Cafe 30 A (tho its almost across the street from the condo complex we always rent.) I'm fussy about spending a lot of money when I can cook as well or better (and the fish store and other stores sell such wonderful things--its a pleasure to cook when we're down at the beach.) I want to eat somewhere that makes food I can't cook (or don't know how to do).

That's exactly the way we are, too. I like cooking and it seems pointless to me to spend money eating out most of the time, especially when the ambiance at my home is pleasing. Though I never miss going to the Red Bar when we're at the beach. I can't duplicate that ambiance!

Peapod, you must try the Red Bar. The food's wonderful and the place is a hoot.

Well, I'm embarrassed to admit I haven't been there in ages! Love going, but our last few trips have been with little ones, and it's always such a wait, especially for a large table, we usually opt out. Not this time, though! :clap_1:

When we visit Belleville, there is always a trek to Al's for a big family dinner! I am famous there!
Al? In Belleville? Or Al Baker's in St. Louis...? Which has been closed now for a long time, so that must not be it. Shoot.

That is so how I feel...with the great seafood ice markets and all the wonderful things available. I think I cook more at the beach than when I'm at home...well, perhaps I'm exaggerating just a lil bit...

Al's near the river in STL. Surely it is still there! It's been there forever and has that great bar that looks like a riverboat!!! Makes me want to break into a song and dance everytime I go!!! "Old man river..."

Al's is still there and going strong. So are all of the ethnic restaurants on South Grand.
