Our Opinion: Run, Charlie, run | tallahassee.com | Tallahassee Democrat
In truth, if ever an elected state governor could rightly claim that the party left him and not the other way around, it is Mr. Crist. The most conservative branch of the party tried to bully the governor into signing a bill it had rammed through the Legislature with almost no public input and without hearing from people within education circles on teacher merit pay.

The governor, as with most reasonable people, said he favored basing teachers' pay on measurable standards that will reward good teachers, including those who take on tough assignments in poorly performing schools and those working with special-needs children.

If both major parties had more members who based their decisions on critical thinking and the welfare of the people who elected them; our country would not be in such a divisive place as it is right now IMO. I don't agree with all Gov Crist's politics by a long shot; but, I do admire him for standing up for what he believes to be the right thing. He is not just pandering to the party's base and the money bags...he understands that once elected, the job is to govern the state for all the people, not just the Republican Party!

Yes, and frankly, the more out-of-state Republicans who endorse Rubio because we "need a unified Republican front in Washington", the more I am loathe to vote for him.

Hey, Mitt/Sarah/Eric Cantor, et al: go home and take care of your own states, and let us take care of Florida. I am not electing a Senator for the benefit of the GOP, I am electing a Senator for the benefit of FLORIDA.

I believe the Gov. Crist was pandering to those who opposed SB6 to get votes. I believe he should run, I believe he has attracted a ton of attention from the left and right and because there are many who are looking for the middle ground and Gov Crist "appears" to be it. My personal feeling, if elected he will align himself with the R's and not venture across the line to support something in the best interest of Floridians, unless it will garner him many votes and only near election time, when we the voters don't hold politicians accountable for votes they have cast in the past.

you may be right...but, there is enough in his record from when he was in the state legislature through all the other offices he has held, to tell me there is a chance that he will continue to behave as he has behaved...we'll see.

Frankly, I hope Kendrick Meek wins:Dbut, I still have some respect for the Governor.

Right here!
I really don't feel Crist is capable of making the right decision when the answer involve a hard choice. I was impressed with Rubio in this last interview, both were asked about raising the ss retirement age. Economist generally agree this is something that needs to be done to save social security. Crist pandered to the retirement base, even though they wouldn't be effected, Rubio made the hard choice and agreed it should be raised. I haven't dug into the issues much yet but it's things like that that have me leaning toward Rubio.

I also seriously doubt Meek has what it takes to make those kinds of decisions either, although I admit I know little about her. None of the candidates yet have extensive issues pages on their sites, so it's hard to tell how they would vote.

Rubio actually said he would look at all options which suprised me.

He specifically said how COLAs are calculated should be adjusted.

I didn't read anything about him wanting to raise the retirement age.

I used to think raising the full retirement age to 70 made sense until I talked to someone my age who is a carpenter. Gradually to 68 is a fair compromise.

read how sb6 was pushed through the legislature, and perhaps reevaluate your position.
