Breaking in the NWFDN:

Grand jury indicts Sansom and Richburg | grand, jury, long - News - Northwest Florida Daily News

"
State Rep. Ray Sansom and Northwest Florida State College President Bob Richburg have been indicted for official misconduct, a third-degree felony.
Richburg has also been indicted on a charge of perjury. And Friday afternoon, Leon County Jail officials said Sansom had gone through booking.

A Leon County grand jury handed down the indictment early Friday. In a nine-page report it advised the state Legislature to "clean up" the way funds are appropriated to prevent misconduct of the kind it found in the Sansom case.

The indictments stemmed from the $6 million deal that was cut to create a multi-use educational facility at Destin Airport on property leased from the county by developer and Sansom backer Jay Odom.

"

It took a newspaper from another part of the state and a grand jury from another part of the state to uncover and press charges in this mess.

Cloth cozies for your ankle bracelet made from left over fabric?

Well, the cozie might be nice. But, I was remembering that what really got Martha Stewart in trouble and landed her in jail was the perjury charge. Richburg, in addition to the other charges he shares with Sansom in the Odom airport deal, is also charged with perjury. This might make others who are called to testify in this case remember better. Or they might take the popular, but often effective, I don't remember statement. Being thought of as stupid or incompetent is better for some than being hit with a large fine or jail. Hopefully, it will remind all to serve with the public's real interest in mind even if the big money and power brokers, their lawyers and lobbyists are constantly pressing. This case may cast a very wide net.

"Destin Jet Takes Off" is the Northwest Florida's front page headline today, Tuesday, May 14. Story by Dusty Ricketts. Mentions Odom's project's years of turbulence and the latest and ongoing controversy with Sansom and Richburg (resulting in indictments). If you are catching up on reading the news, also see yesterday's investigative story by Tom McLaughlin on indicted Sheriff Morris. Intense story on how it came down. Guess everyone has the heads up now that the person they are talking to may be wired. With all this going on, there might not be any wire left in Northwest Florida.

I listened to a very interesting "round table" discussion by the Capital News Bureau chiefs of five major papers yesterday on Capital Reports on WFSU radio.

One of the most interesting items was their perceptions of how the Sanson-Odom-Richburg situation affected the workings of the Legislature, especially the House.

Our actions often have far-reaching consequences...:yikes:
