Scrub Oaks

I have lived amongst the scrub oaks for most of my life and I have never seen as many acorns fall as this year. My yard is covered in them. Does anyone know why they are so prevalent this year? Is there any creative thing I can use them for?

It's called a mast year. Or at least that's what Martha Stewart told me. It happened here a few years ago. The squirrels pretty much took care of them. I wondered too about some project I could do with them. I had this little vision of me fighting the squirrels for 'em.

And that appears to becoming true...brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Let the squirrels have the acorns, looks like they will need them this winter.

The squirrels only come around my house if I have my feeder full. They won't come down on my lawn because of the dog. I think I'll fill my feeder!
