I saw a number of people walking down 30A from Grayton towards Seaside. They weren't dressed like vacationers. We went into a restaurant in Seaside. There were several sweaty employees. Then it dawned on me. I asked if they had parked in the 283 lot and had to walk because the shuttle did a no show. Yep, that's what they said. Great way to start you work shift, walking in the heat from Grayton to Seaside and being tired and sweaty before you even start.

I agree with you! I am a Seaside merchant and I promise you this will be addressed this coming week in a meeting with SCDC. Improvements must be made to better serve everyone. Thanks for mentioning it.

Yes, the merchants will weigh in at some point, I'd expect. As well they should, they support Seaside year round, while the valet parking is seasonal.

I am a Seaside merchant and it was vocally addressed on Friday the first day. That issue has been corrected. Please give us a chance. Most of us are small business owners and are your neighbors.

Maybe, but the spots employees took were not all in one lot but spread around as they found one. Are the valets going to drive around till they find one that won't be already taken by a guest? Good luck on this unless they rope off a significant number of spots for valet only.

The valet parking lot is roped off for quick parking. The valets are only allowed to park these cars in a specified area OFF Central Square. Central Square parking continue to be open and free self parking as it has always been. Valet is an option only if you desire.

Friday was a bumpy first day for valet but corrections were made Saturday that improved things.

From May 24 through August 10, SCDC will be moving employee parking off-site to the vacant lot at 283 near 30-A (former Grayton Grand site). A shuttle will run 8am-1am for employees.

Thus, 115 spaces are being freed up. Poof, there's the magic bullet!

Its truly designed to free up more spaces. In the past employees parked in Seaside and sometimes at the front doors of the businesses. Those spaces need to be available for our guests and shoppers. I dont work for Seaside but have a small business in Seaside. I want those spot open for YOU not staff members and employees. I hate it for employees but customers must come first!

Just out of curiosity, where will valet park the cars if Central Square is full? Will a portion of the Square be roped off?

PLEASE NOTE...valet DOES NOT park the valet'd cars in Central Square. Cars pull up at the valet station and then valets take them to the valet parking area. Central Square continues to be open and available for FREE self parking like always.

The valet is parking cars on Smolian Circle...not in Central Square. Anyone can still drive into Central Square and park for free as always.

Yes, this is true. And the valet is parking the vehicles where employees usually park. Employees are parking offsite to allow more than 100 more spaces for guests at any given time.

Sp8holly, I appreciate your enthusiasm and support of Seaside. I will certainly continue to support the merchants and Farmers Market vendors.
