I'm starting to freak out a little. I haven't checked into this site for months & saw a few pix of TS Arlene and the errosian, etc. We live in Chicago & have reservations for Seaside in 3 weeks! We're in absolute panic at the possible condition. Of course, it will ALWAYS be beautiful, no matter what, but... we are pretty worried that we'll be spending most of our time in a pool!!! Please update us if possible. Thanks so much!

Thanks for that very helpful advice. Please remeber, we're not local, not from the area, only get the chance to visit every 7 - 8 years, so we are a little unfamiliar of the beaches and their condition even if they're not "right in front of Seaside."
Several days ago took my 5 year old daughter to Grayton Beach for the first time. It's just down from Seaside. Clear, clear water. Wide sandy beach. Heaven.

. The pics of the beach in front of Seaside don't look good. But the beach runs for several miles east and west. There are public beach accesses (sp?) all over the place. As OnMackBayou said Grayton Beach is maybe 1 to 1.5 miles to the west and (from the pics I've seen) is in great shape. I know it sounds funny to go to a beach that's not infront of you house / condo / community but we do it all the time. We have a gulf front condo and still drive to Grayton, not every day but 2-3 times every trip down there.
Remember, even a bad day at the beach is better than a day in the office. If it wasn't for bad days / conditions or whatever we would not have discovered many of the things we now do everytime we head down.

Our kids (four generations) have always loved the lake at Grayton. We always called it "little lake" and it has appealed to all ages through the years. It changes daily and is certainly a unique part of nature.
Who would ever need a pool when you have the best beach, surf, and water in the world? You can stay on I-10 at the Holiday Inn if all you want is a pool. The kids need to learn to deal with the salt in the water and the waves in the gulf.

A former boss of mine in GA, once took his family to Orlando on vacation. They stayed at a hotel near Disney. Apparently, Disney characters are all over the place in Orlando. They never went into Disney during the entire week b/c my boss is cheap. When they returned, I asked my Boss's 4 yr old daughter what she liked most about Disney World. She said, "the pool."
