Self Publishing

I am in the process of writing a small book that I would like to have edited and published, but I have no idea how to go about making this happen. Does anyone have expertise in this area? Or a direction?
I will put this thread in other forums, but I thought it would recieve more press here.

I know a website that one of my friends used to get a book published... I think it's lulu.com. I'm not sure if that's exactly what you're looking for, but I figured I'd throw it out there.Good luck!!

There are a lot of websites out there for vanity publishers - you give them $$$ and they print your book for you, but I don't know if they also do editing, publicity etc.

Do you want to publish a book for the mass market and start a career as an author or do you want to just write a book for a small market?

I started a thread several months ago about finding a printer for a family autobiography and there were some good suggestions for websites where you pay per book to get it printed (on-demand) and can also have the book put on file so others (Sowallers etc) can buy it too.

I am a working writer, and my girlfriend has published at least one book of note, so I could probably be of help in some way. I know an author who had a positive experience with iUniverse, so you might want to check that out. Drop me a private message if you want to discuss...
