I have no problem with criticism of the Vatican. For example, one could argue that Rome's stand on birth control contributes heavily to poverty.

I do however have a problem with this nasty skank, who seemingly can't make a joke without some reference to scat, urine or genitalia, using starving Africans as buffing cloths to shine her star among her peers. Do you honestly think insinuating that the Pope will "get loads of p***y" for having a yard sale serves any purpose other than inciting agitation in Catholics and giddiness among those that resent the institution?

I guess Sarah could have pointed out that those little starving kids with flies climbing around their eyes worship Allah and called the heads of the Muslim faith to task for allowing their acolytes to horde aid sent to feed the starving. She could have suggested that the gold plating mosque domes be melted down and sold to feed the starving. She could have proposed that pilgrimages to Mecca be halted for one year and Muslims send the money they would have spent to some group that will use the funds to buy food for the starving. And to place a cherry on top she could have said the Muslim elders would receive more p***y than could be provided by a harem of wives, and the graphic artists could have placed a woman in a burka flashing her goods while the comment was made.

But she didn't. A better target is the Vatican. Or maybe a better way to say it is that a more rewarding, lower risk target is the Vatican. Meanwhile, the Vatican probably sends more charity to destitute Muslims than does any Muslim organization. Conversely, how much charity is sent to poverty stricken Catholic kids by organized Islam, say in Guatemala perhaps? Probably none.

If you really think this piece is intended as serious social commentary, I don't think you can see the forest for the trees.

By the way, why is this still in the lounge? I think it probably belongs in the political forum.

I agree Mr. Skunkape... it is a bit extreme. I think serious change can come to the Catholic through it own group introspection, and will not come through the laughable advice of Ms. Silverman. But, unlike a Glenn Beck or Anne Coulter, who can say things almost as reprehensible, she is billed upfront only as a comedienne.

The bile is rising in my throat, nasty skank? We're really only sure she was doing Matt Damon whilst with Jimmy Kimmel. At least attack her for what she is, a no holes barred(so to speak) Jewess shrew. The other potential means of raising capital were probably considered, but the Catholic one apparently was the final choice, and I'm sure she's moved on, like we all should. A thing to remember about Ms. Silverman, everyone is fair game in her sights, this shotgun pellet just happened to have Vatican written on it. My Catholicism allows for some fun to be poked at it. WWJD?

Through my self study of religions I am disgusted by the Catholic Church. I was raised Catholic and most of my family are devout Catholics. Through the ages, the Popes were as powerful as Kings. King Henry VIII lobbied, dangerously so, to have the bible altered via the Pope so he could divorce his wives, and succeeded, or beheaded them. Catholicism is very political and many innocent souls lost their heads or their dignity due to the so called church. It was corrupt 600 years ago and it is corrupt now.

The Vatican has historical significance most of which is not pretty. I am not familiar with Ms. Silverman, but she is on to something! The Pope and his puppets are living like kings, yet Priests and Nuns take a vow of poverty, how messed up is that. Then the chastity thing...that is not natural and it has obviously caused problems, which I need not mention.

I don't think you can single out the Catholic Church for accumulating wealth and having its leader living high on the hog. Many world religions who span millennium had/have wealthy "priests" and elaborate temples.

Turn on the TV or wander through a bookstore and you will see many examples of modern people blatantly "selling" religion and funneling the money to their bank accounts instead of the poor or their parish.

And Sarah Silverman is a shock comedian who will do or say anything to get a laugh. She is so vulgar any valid satire (because she is a quite talented writer) is rapidly lost in toilet humor.

Funny how some things don't change much with the passage of time.

Organized religion as a whole is a joke. Whether it's some old man in luxurious robes wearing jewelry that could feed an entire African country for decades or a rich man or woman (or in most cases married couple) sitting on gilded antiques in a multimillion dollar television studio; they are nothing but sick middle men. They prey on peoples values, morals, conscience, beliefs, and guilt to supposedly serve a higher good while profiting from the poor, sick, and needy.

Show me in the bible where Jesus took his cut and I'll gladly apologize.
