I find it hard to believe that in this day and age of computers, debit cards, taxes, and bar codes we can't easily eliminate most food stamp abuse.

It if isn't food or a grocery item (I assume you can buy stuff like laundry detergent, soap etc. ?) you shouldn't be able to pay for it with food stamps. Fix that and you fix a lot of the fraud issue.

People who are on food stamps need food more than oil companies need subsidies.

Not everyone who needs help is a deadbeat - a good portion of the time they work a hell of alot harder than the politicians making these decisions - and who get WAY MORE handouts than they ever will.

I forgot they had CC FS, but it still isn't stopping the fraud, nor does it guarantee a child or elderly person are eating a nutritionally balanced meal instead of bagged crap. Trust me, I lived in a neighborhood that bordered a grocery store and just about everyone who went into the store was a food stamp recipient. The crap that was on the store belt for checkout while they had several kids with them really ticked me off.

That's why I support the food bank idea because they have more nutritious foods there. You won't see Doritos stacked on shelves. and more controls over abuse. of course, just like any government subsidy/programs, there are good people who are just down on hard times and are barely getting by; those who are humbled everytime they have to take out that card. Those are the ones who need it the most, but those are also the people who go to food banks because it is difficult for them to go their local grocery and run into neighbors. Not sure where anyone got the idea that I was against the food stamp program and everyone on it was a bum?

Am I wrong in thinking that there was a surplus of money in the food stamp program to the point where attempts were being made to add recipients to the rolls? This may predate our current sluggish economy by a few years, but I am pretty sure this was the case. If so, is a cut to an overfunded project really a cut?:dunno:
