Idlewind, I agree with you for the most part. I wish u guys would put your sharp teeth away- you don't exclusively possess common sense. Make a point, agree or disagree with a point- but why try to provoke another or imply they lack sense? So polarizing. If u want to pat yourself on the back for possessing good sense then talk about defense cuts and sunseting tax cuts- for everyone.

Read some of the things written about Andy for example. Talk about "sharp teeth." IMHO the snide and snarky remarks run about 5 liberal ones to every one conservative. But liberals are rarely called out for theirs and conservatives are called every time. Sort of like real life, I guess everyone has learned this behavior from the mainstream media.:roll:
As to common sense, I have never claimed a monopoly on it but I have enough of it to know that you cannot spend money you do not have, no matter how laudable the item requested. In tough times you have to prioritize and somebody is going to get their pet project cut because it is non-essential.
I am all for cutting the defense budget, beginning by cutting out the vast majority of our overseas bases. And I favor an overhaul of the tax code, especially elliminating loopholes that tend to favor the rich.

Whooo. Your post is right on and I certainly agree with it, just as all the liberals and no conservative agreed with Geo's. I am certainly glad to see you back as I was afraid you had been banned and we of our political pursuasion are few enough here.
Back to the subject. You could not be more correct about where we could cut our military, IMO. I cannot understand why we maintain so many overseas bases in friendly countries and have for years. We have the capability to send troops anywhere in the world in a matter of hours. One other place the military could cut is the extension of military hardware we really don't need. The production of a 2nd engine for the F35 is a good example. For that matter, the F35 itself might be a good example though I'm sure it would really be a blast to fly it. The reformation of the tax code is a given.

Look at the "thanks" on your post. I always look at them on any post. Whether you agree or not, they say a lot. Also, you said "I agree, for the most part". Not exactly a ringing endorsement. Now, lets hear your comment on what the military can cut and what you can offer that can be cut elsewhere.

Um- I said I agreed with idlewind and that just because the two of u were making good sense doesn't mean that the rest of us lack it. I think both of these points were nonpartisan.

Anyway-

I believe everything we spend a dollar on should have .10 slashed from it. I mean everything. My position is that there are opportunities to run 10% more efficiently everywhere without hurting quality. I believe all Bush tax cuts should expire. I mean all. And I believe corporate tax loopholes should be closed and that tariffs should be imposed on the goods of any American company that moves overseas as a result of being asked to pay taxes here. Finally, I believe pot should be legalized and taxed and gays should be forced to get married like the rest of us.

Why not a sane, fair tax code for everyone? Taking people's money just for the sake of taking it is stealing. If you cut out the insane loopholes then we will be getting somewhere. You can say the corporate tax rate ( for example) is 90% but if there are enough loopholes they effectively pay zero. I would rather have a 10% rate and collect it all than brag to my liberal friends about a 90% rate and collect nothing.

the rich in this country pay less than they have in 50 years.
