That's my understanding too CK. I am sorry to hear that someone was unable to qualify due to this type of scenario. But honestly, procrastination when it comes to running for office is usually a bad idea.

And Scooter, please re-read my post. I am not saying the only reason Comm. Brannon was re-elected was because he has done a good job. In fact, I believe I acknowledged that there are some other viewpoints out there as well.

But to make a personal attack on me is going too far. Clearly, you dislike Comm. Brannon. I personally believe he has done a good job on the board. We can agree to disagree on those issues without getting nasty.

And like it or not, Comm. Brannon will be representing Walton County, including SoWal, for the next four years. I believe that is a good thing.

Well, hopefully no more harm can be done. At least good things were set in moton in previous years that will see us through the next four years. On to another race. Democrats need to realize that since there is a Democrat candidate in the Sheriff race, they will not be able to vote in the Republican Primary. If they want to vote in the Republican Primary, they will need to be registered as Republicans. Then, if they chose, they can stay Republican or change to whatever before the General Election in November. I don't think that the general population understands election rules and regulations. Perhaps our news hounds can do an election 101 lesson.

Or gosh, Democrats could vote for the Democratic candidate.

And you're right, Johnny Post. I did procrastinate. I know that I need to move about ten miles west of here, into a different precinct, I think everything worked out for the best, because the position I was considering was not one of the biggies and certainly shouldn't play a role in a housing decision, but that morning I didn't realize a person could be appointed, and thought the position would go unfilled, The SOE office wasn't as pleasant to deal with as most other county government representatives I've interacted with in Walton County, and they certainly shouldn't have made an exception for one person and not the other. Bygones.

That's true Rapunzel. There is just one Democrat sheriff candidate, so don't even think name will be on ballot until the General. Just addressing a few Democrat friends who had commented on a Republican they were going to vote for in the Primary and did not realize that with a Democrat in the race, that was not possible. Is Democrat sheriff candidate legit or just a plant? These things do happen in Walton County and many other places as part of a planned campaign strategy. Democrats can vote in the District 5 Commissioner Race as there is no Democrat in the Primary. Sometimes a full political spectrum of candidates provides a real discussion of important issues and how a candidate will approach problem solving. It also reveals whether a candidate is running for office under a Party's banner just to get elected, or if they even understand the Party's platform and general philosophy.

Demo Sheriff Candidate is Legit

Danny Griffith, the lone Democratic candidate for Sheriff, is definitely legitimate and has a wealth of law enforcement experience as well as being quite well known in the county -- especially the north part of the county. Because he has no Democratic opponent, he is getting all materials, funding, and plans together and will run a serious race for the slot. It's my opinion, after visiting with him several times, that he will be underestimated and will be a surprise dark horse in this race. He will post an introduction on SoWal as soon as his materials are ready. You can read more about him now here.

Democrats don't have to become Republicans in order to elect a Sheriff -- unless, of course, they want to help choose the Republican candidate in the August primary election.
