Why so long? It's not just NO, there are places in Miss. that have yet to see any help from FEMA. They have received help from their neighbors, (Pensacola, Gulf Shores, Milton, etc.). Bless them. Jessie Jackson says it's because they are mostly black, I say because it's the South. I have always wondered how the gov. would have responded if 9-11 had happened in Atlanta, Memphis, Nashville or Louisville. Hope I'm wrong, but look at New Orleans.

It's hard to believe that anyone could think this has anything to do with race. And again, this situation can not be compared to 9-11. They are/were nothing alike at all.

The situation cannot be, but the reaction time can be. Both were Disasters.

Very glad to see that help is finally being provided to NOLA however I hope that the areas of Miss and Alabama along the gulfcoast have not been forgotten. Maybe Geraldo needs to go there and report on their conditions?

The plans that were laid out and practiced forgot to factor in the loss of communication that was created by the storm. The comm systems used by the Natl Guard and the comm system and frequencies used by the civilian agencies is seperate (this is what was reported last night) and the fact that the cellular systems were destroyed broke their ability to comm between each group. Plus the civilian and/or local FEMA reps were devistated too. As I said, the loss of and inability to communciate (physical phone or cellular systems lost etc) between the civil, local, and Federal levels caused a comm breakdown and the Federal side sat and waited (protocol) to figure out what/when to do. This delay added to the delay caused by the lawlessness multiplied the issues.

Thank god the forces finally moved in and now things are moving very well. Houston and the rest of Texas should be proud of their leaders at this point. Alot of the focus now is on what to do and how to organize efforts as these devistated people are being displaced into Tx. I heard interviews with several people that said that they would not be moving back to NOLA or the gulfcoast even if it was rebuilt.

Yes, but one was an act of war, which of course would require immediate government involvement. For a natural disaster, assistance would have to go up the different levels to reach that point. I see what you are saying, though. It's just not so simple. :sosad:
