I think that would be a nice way to show support and that the beaches are clean/safe - but where could they go that is contained enough that they can actually vacation in peace?

I believe one of the reason's Martha's Vineyard is popular is that it is easily securable, buildings meet Secret Service requirements, and access can be easily controlled.

Somewhere on 30-A might be the best, but can't imagine the cluster a presidential motorcade on 30-A or 98 during the summer would cause. ;-)

Hail no! You think traffic is bad now? You think Publix is a nightmare now? Can you imagine what 4 people and their staff of 500 would do? Not to mention the reporters, lookie lous, and outright nuts.

The question is not whether he should take a vacation (you need them to be effective IMO), but should he come to the Gulf Coast with his family.

Jindal wants Obama in LA as much as possible (and offered up the Governor's mansion) because when Obama is there more things get done.

Crist and others think it is a good idea because media coverage of the First Family vacationing would definitively show that the beaches are safe and open for business.

I don't think President Obama and family vacationing at the governor's home in Louisiana is a guarantee "more things will get done". But if the guy just has to have a few days off (if there is a such thing for a President) by all means come on down. It would show tremendous goodwill and be a PR bonanza for all parties involved.
