While handling a question from a local high school student at a candidate forum hosted by Newschannel 7 and North Bay Haven Charter School, a Republican U.S. House candidate told a group of middle and high school students that Islam "is against everything America stands for."

Some applauded after Ron McNeil's comment Tuesday at a candidate forum for students in Panama City, but one student challenged McNeil's comments.

McNeil then said Islam's "plan is to destroy our way of life."

The exchange began when McNeil voiced opposition to a proposed Islamic center, including a mosque, two blocks from the World Trade Center site.

McNeil said if it's built, it should be "nine stories underground, so we can walk above it as citizens and Christians."

McNeil is one of five Republicans vying to challenge Democratic Rep. Allen Boyd.

Well, good for the student who challenged such religious bigotry.

What a tool - glad they got it on camera for the jihad recruiting video. :sarc:

Pandering Bubbas aside, the founding fathers specifically wanted our country to have religious freedom and deliberately phrased documents to show their intent.

"In his autobiography Jefferson wrote "[When] the [Virginia] bill for establishing religious freedom... was finally passed,... a singular proposition proved that its protection of opinion was meant to be universal. Where the preamble declares that coercion is a departure from the plan of the holy author of our religion, an amendment was proposed, by inserting the word 'Jesus Christ,' so that it should read 'a departure from the plan of Jesus Christ, the holy author of our religion.' The insertion was rejected by a great majority, in proof that they meant to comprehend within the mantle of its protection the Jew and the Gentile, the Christian and Mahometan, the Hindoo and infidel of every denomination."

He was 14 when 9/11 happened. He fought and died for his country, America.

I am so proud of that student--actually both of them--wouldn't it be productive if we had more adults who would speak truth to power?

What a horrible example the comments from this man are to the students in this school!

I was going to tell you exactly what is right here but I've decided to stay out of it because it's more of a local issue.

But I will say this. Ya'll are acting kinda crazy.

Newt Declines Appearance at 9/11 GZ Rally

Newt will not appear or speak to a rally at the site of a proposed Islamic Cultural Center on 9/11. Even the video message originally planned has now been cancelled.

Aw, Newt. You got us all whipped up in a lather--what with talkin' 'bout Nazis & the Holocaust & all--& now you can't come? Man...?!?

Johnathan Winters used to do a bit as a fat army general who'd say,
?Men, I'd love to be with you at the front on the battle field today, but...you know, paperwork at Hqs...damn that paperwork!
