I am going to stay that I am cautiously optimistic - I also think we will see (hopefully) smarter ways of growing/developing.
Those ways are already working in some places, as you no doubt know! I just finished reading Lester Brown's Plan B 3.0, finally, and while the first half of it is all what we already know about what a mess things are, in excruciating detail, the second half outlines a coherent approach to fixing it all, and shows how the fix for one thing (say, population control/family planning) is also a major part of the fix for other things (reducing hunger, poverty, climate change, failing states, etc.) Should be required reading for all elected and appointed gov't officials and for that matter, all gov't staff. IMHO.
