Bridgette Lowe, Certified Personal Trainer and Yoga and Pilates instructor, will speak at the September 21 meeting of the Emerald Coast Meditation Society. Her topic will be “Slo Mo: Intelligent Movement.” The ECMS will meet at 6:30 p.m. at Christ the King, at 480 N. Co. Hwy. 393, one-half mile north of Hwy. 98. The meeting, open free to the public, begins with 30 minutes of silent meditation.
Slo Mo is based on the work of Moshe Feldenkrais (1904–1984) and is known as Feldenkrais Neurological-Movement work. It consists of a series of movement exercises, which direct attention to habitual movement patterns, and attempts to teach new patterns using gentle, slow, repeated movements. This allows people to rediscover their innate capacity for graceful, efficient movement which enhances functioning in other aspects of their lives. The therapy also repairs impaired connections between the motor cortex and the body, which improves the quality of body movement and wellbeing.
Please bring a blanket or something to lie on the floor to the session. We’ll use them to do exercises on the floor as Bridgette leads us through some of the movements.
Bridgette Lowe has been teaching exercise classes since 1978, and had managed and directed several dance studios and gyms. She has trained with various masters in Ashtanga Yoga, including Richard Freeman, David Swenson, and Tim Miller. In addition, Bridgette successfully completed a 500-hour Yoga Alliance certification in 2002. In May 2003, she spent three weeks in Greece studying with Angela Farmer and Victor Van Kooten.
In addition to her interest in exercise and movement, Bridgette has explored many forms of nutrition and natural healing. For example, she studied the raw food movement and was a Raw Food Chef at Living Green Health Food in Tavares, Florida. She has also worked at assisted living facilities teaching movement to our elders.
The ECMS is an ecumenical group open free to anyone. It meets on the first and third Thursdays of the month, September through June. The evening will end around 8 p.m. Anyone who would like meditation instruction should come at 6:15 p.m. Questions? Contact Tracey Tapp, tltapp@cox.net.
